Reclaiming Your Financial Power: Breaking the Cycles of Economic Abuse
Money is about more than just math; it’s about freedom. For many women, money has been used as a tool of control, manipulation, and isolation. If you’ve ever had your spending scrutinized, been prevented from working, or had debt hidden from you, you may have experienced Financial Abuse.
In this interactive workshop, &Rise, in partnership with Jasmine Lopez, provide a safe, trauma-informed space to deconstruct your "money story." We aren't just talking about budgets; we are talking about reclaiming the right to own your future. Whether you are currently in a difficult dynamic or are a survivor looking to rebuild your foundation, this workshop is designed to turn financial fear into financial confidence.
What is Financial Abuse?
Financial abuse is a subtle but devastating form of domestic or relational abuse. It occurs when a partner, family member, or caregiver takes total control over your ability to acquire, use, and maintain economic resources.
It often looks like:
Controlled Access: Forcing you to hand over your paycheck or giving you an "allowance."
Economic Sabotage: Preventing you from attending work, school, or job interviews.
Hidden Strings: Creating "secret" debt in your name or ruining your credit score to prevent you from being able to rent an apartment or buy a car.
The "Asking" Dynamic: Making you feel guilty or afraid to ask for money for basic necessities like food or medicine.
How This Workshop Will Help You
Reclaiming your power requires both emotional healing and practical tools. During our time together, we will:
Identify the Red Flags: Learn to spot the subtle tactics of economic control before they escalate.
Audit Your Money Story: Explore how your past experiences have shaped your current relationship with money.
Build a Safety Blueprint: Creating a "freedom fund" in a way that prioritizes your safety.
Establish Financial Boundaries: Practice the language of setting firm boundaries with partners, family, and even yourself.
Find Your Community: Connect with other women who understand that financial independence is the ultimate form of self-care.
